Peggy Holtzman

Peggy Holtzman, L.M.S.W., received her Masters in Social Work from the University of Michigan in 1985 after teaching Spanish for a few years to high school students in the Ann Arbor Public Schools. She has worked in a variety of social work settings.  Peggy previously worked as a psychotherapist in the Counseling Department at Washtenaw Community College with adolescents, adults, couples and their families.

Peggy’s postgraduate training in family therapy was with Harry Aponte and Family Therapy Associates from 1989-92. Peggy is also certified as an EMDR therapist and has incorporated the use of EMDR in her therapy practice since 1996 to assist people in healing from physical, emotional and/or sexual traumas.

She has also used EMDR to help people heal through grief and loss, deal with anxiety or depression, and for personal and spiritual growth. Peggy is an EMDR Consultant-in-Training and is offering consultation to beginning EMDR therapists at a reduced fee. She has provided supervision to graduate students in counseling or social work at W.C.C. since 1990.

Peggy also has experience in facilitating support and therapy groups related to interfaith couples, LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered) issues, substance abuse awareness and prevention, parenting, mindfulness/stress management, Artist’s Way and Art as a Way of Knowing Groups (using art as a way of  processing emotions and fostering creativity), and grief and loss groups.

Peggy welcomes diverse families and populations. She has a special interest in the integration of art and spirituality within the therapeutic context, enhancing and developing personal strengths and resources.
